Patti Tana

Patti Tana grew up in the Hudson River Valley, and she has made her home on Long Island. She is Professor Emerita of English at Nassau Community College (SUNY). She received the Faculty Distinguished Achievement Award in 1995 and was Coordinator of the Creative Writing Project from 1999 to 2003. The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association selected her as their 2009 Long Island Poet of the Year.

Her poems have been published in the Anthology of Magazine Verse & Yearbook of American Poetry, and they have been awarded first prize from the Shelley Society of New York, Long Island Poetry Collective, Lake Ronkonkoma Historical Society, Performance Poets Association, The Nassau Review, Peninsula Public Library, and Xanadu: A Literary Journal.

The poet was Artist-in-Residence at the Volcano Arts Center in Hawaii in 1989. Since its founding in 1990, she has been an associate editor of the Long Island Quarterly. She is associate editor of the poetry anthology Raining Leaves (1986) and editor of Songs of Seasoned Women (2007). All I Can Gather & Give is Patti Tana’s ninth collection of poems.
